1. General information
The subject and its expected results respond to the following approaches and objectives:
The students must correctly create a work on a matrix for each technique and print and present it correctly. At the end of the term, the student should know perfectly all the techniques exposed and solve them at a technical level.
Upon completion of the subject, the student will be able to:
Master drawing, form and colour in multiple engraving. Know the dies, processes and means of stamping. Master intaglio techniques and their seriation.
Deepen personal creativity through these media.
Have a historical background. Know classical and current artists, conceptual analysis.
OBJECTIVES
- Knowledge. Understand, define and explain engraving techniques.
Know the existing risks and hazards of the workshop.
Relate engraving techniques to each other. Recognize and differentiate some techniques from others. Know the materials and tools used in engraving and the operation of the printing machinery.
Know intaglio printing and its resources. General processes of stamping with one and several inks.
Apply the techniques to the appropriate images. Drawing and building correctly
Be responsible for the order and cleanliness of common and own materials. Appreciate, respect, value, cleaning up, tidying up, collaborate and cooperate with other classmates in keeping the workshop tidied.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the
United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition
of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to a certain degree to the
to its achievement: Goals 6, 11 and 12.

4. Academic activities
The learning process designed for this subject is based on the following:
Theory and daily practice. Application of each of the contents to the expression of personal work. Training and experimental topics in each of the exercises.
Plastic perception of ideas through graphic skills and media.
Visual analysis of classic and contemporary prints. Group discussion and individualized application.
Analysis of each one of the processes, from the sketch, concept of image inversion, values of the line, dot, stain, hollow, relief, plane, embossing, others.
Creation of own work through graphic techniques. Colour stamping, status proofs, definitive and serialization.
Individual tutorials and specific monographic seminars.
SCHEDULE
The schedule established from the activities is adjusted to the didactic units. Time control is important in order to avoid a laxity of some topics to the detriment of others and to teach the whole program.
The activities are divided into three blocks:
Theory: exposition of the work process and its phases.
Practice: development of activities.
Evaluation: delivery of work and evaluation. Sharing and evaluations.
The general theoretical methodology of the subjects is based on sessions with the following configuration:
Theoretical presentation:
General description of the process and phase differentiation. Clarification of doubts, problem solving.
Exhibition/Practical solution:
Practical demonstration of the entire technical process for visualization.
Reasoned execution of the process and justification of the technical steps for the total development of the technique. Clarification of doubts, problem solving.
Student activity
Individual practical performance of the exercise by the students. Clarification of doubts, technical and plastic advice of the Didactic Unit covered by the teacher.
Exercises
Teaching accompanied by projections, new technologies and multimedia material. Resources and needs. Slides, transparencies, power point, videos, bibliography and original prints/drawings. Multimedia material. As appropriate.
The work to be done will be presented for all the exercises. The idea will be presented together with sketches.
Results
Each student will complete at least one drawing/engraving of each technique.
5. Assessment system
Type of tests and their value on the final grade and assessment criteria for each test
Students should be aware of the plagiarism regulations of the University of Zaragoza published in:
https://biblioteca.unizar.es/propiedad-intelectual/propiedad-intelectual-plagio
Likewise, they must be familiar with the Regulation of Learning Assessment Standards approved by agreement of December 22, 2010, of the University's Governing Council:
http://cud.unizar.es/docs/ReglamentodeNormasdeEvaluaciondelAprendizaje.pdf
The student must demonstrate achievement of the intended learning results through the following assessment activities:
- Continuous assessment of the exercises or official final exam.
- Students who do not attend class regularly or do not submit all the exercises will not be eligible for continuous assessment. In order to pass the training contents of the subject, it is necessary to attend classes and to do continuous practical work under the supervision of the teacher during the whole academic year.
- Benchmark grades will be published quarterly. Continuous assessment by year, quarterly and annual assessment of the stamps.
- The evaluation will be based on both technical and formal knowledge acquired.
- The progress in personal expressiveness will be valued from the graphic media in the different techniques and processes.
The practical delivery will not be assessed if the student does not attend the theoretical session.
The teaching process is carried out on a face-to-face basis. A large number of the workshop sessions are practical, so class attendance is mandatory in order to be able to perform and present them. Students who do not attend class or have missed 8 or more classes without a justified reason will lose the right to continuous assessment and must pass the final theoretical/practical test, which will be held in May/June.
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
A calendar of periodic deliveries is established throughout the term as a continuous evaluation system that will include the delivery of practical work done in class corresponding to the different printing techniques worked on. As the grade obtained by this process will refer to the total of the subject, the student will have the possibility of passing it with the maximum grade.
In order for a student to be evaluated, they must hand in the stamps of all the techniques, attend the workshop practices and theory classes punctually, and must respect other students and maintain the order and cleanliness of the facilities.
The main assessment criteria to pass the subject are based on attitude, technique, printing, drawing and delivery of work within the established deadlines:
ATTITUDE: The development of the student's autonomous work for the application in the practical workshop sessions is especially valued. The student will have to use autonomous work hours to prepare the image in order to continue developing the work in the workshop.
Attendance to the complete sessions is valued, including punctuality at the beginning and end of the theoretical and practical sessions.
Cleanliness and care of the workshop machinery, classroom order, care of materials, tools, respect for classmates and class participation are valued.
This accounts for 35 % of the grade.
TECHNICAL: Knowledge and elaboration of the technique, understanding. Skills, dexterity, mastery and technical progress. Adequacy of the results to the proposals and techniques. Carry out the exercises in the workshop based on the approaches developed in the student's autonomous work.
Development and procedural research will be valued.
This accounts for 25 % of the grade.
STAMP: Evaluation of formal aspects. Clean, unblemished paper, cut with regular deckle edges. Clean bevels in additive techniques. Print with register. Presentation, nomenclature, quality of the represented and quality of the stamping. Degree of complexity, resolution of the exercises.
This accounts for 20 % of the grade.
DRAWING: Plastic quality of the work and the search for what is represented.
Personal contribution, conceptual maturity, originality and creativity.
This accounts for 20 % of the grade.
Thus, the following grading percentages are established:
- Attitude. 35 % of the grade
- Technique, 25 %
- Stamp, 20 %
- Drawing, 20 %
All these factors analysed in class and made known to the students are sufficient factors to be able to make a critical judgment at the end of the term.
All these factors analysed in class and made known to the students are sufficient factors
The overall test will consist of a theoretical-practical exam including short and essay questions as well as a practical part related to the techniques worked throughout the term. The practical part will assess the knowledge of the technique (35%), printing (35%) and drawing (30%).
_______
GLOBAL TEST
All students will have the right to take the global test in order to pass the subject or to improve the grade obtained. Students attending the exam must appear punctually on the day and at the time indicated in the summons, otherwise they will be considered as "No-shows".
SECOND CALL
The evaluation in second call, to which all students who have not passed the subject will be entitled, will be carried out by means of a global test that will take place in the period established in the academic calendar, to that effect, by the Governing Council.
